Going for goal

Itโ€™s time to think about what you really want (what you really really want ๐ŸŽต ) for the remaining year ahead and coming up with some goals that are sustainable and long term ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

This can be applied in all aspects of your ๐ŸŒ whether it be netball or life ๐Ÿคฉ If you're after a quick fix.... sorry ๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธHate to break it to you, but if really was that quick and easy we would be doing it right? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ Unfortunately, it's the hard work, challenges and setbacks that separate those who succeed from those who don't๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ… And for those that do persist, realise that the hard work and lessons is actually where the growth and magic happensโœจโœจโœจ You learn more about yourself and smash through boundaries you thought you had๐Ÿ’ฅ Below we cover more details on Goal Setting and the various steps to setting yourself up for success:

Why:

Before I can even try to convince you to set goals ๐ŸŽฏ You probably are like me and need to understand the whyโ‰๏ธ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ If I don't see a point, there's a high chance it ain't getting done๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ Did you know that we complete goals every. single. day - whether we realise it or not? ๐Ÿง The fact that we can set our alarms โฐ shower, arrive at work on time (or near enough) OR get ready for netball training, put our shoes on, arrive in enough time ready to warm up, are all little micro goals ๐Ÿ” Understanding that we have a choice with all the goals we have, means that we have some control about the direction we go ๐Ÿ”โ†ช๏ธโคต๏ธ๐Ÿ”„ Without this we lack purpose or, most commonly, just go with the flow and drift to wherever our circumstances conveniently take us ๐Ÿ’จ ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ By having goals, we create a focus, so when we have a bunch of external stimulus and distractions thrown ๐Ÿคพ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ๐Ÿคน๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ at us, we can revert back to our goals and ask ourselves this question:

Is this moving me closer or further from my goalsโ“โฌ…๏ธ or โžก๏ธ ๐Ÿค” Dreaming:



What is it that you want? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ We all have that invisible ceiling that we put on ourselves ๐Ÿ™†๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ What we believe we deserve or are capable of. I know you have one - I do too ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ

Imagine ๐Ÿ’ญ this was removed and could do or be anyone or anything you ever wanted๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ’ซ Think about where you would like to be in 5 years time.... Will it be completely different to what you are doing now? Are you currently implementing micro goals to get you there? ๐Ÿ”Ž Often when we are planning this far ahead, it all of a sudden gives us permission to be able to create a vision of anything we want ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ This is because we are NOT basing the outcome on:

๐Ÿ“where we currently are

๐Ÿ“what we currently have

๐Ÿ“what we think we currently capable of


โœจWith the ceiling lifted anything is possibleโœจ

When we see this vision, we can then start to break it down so that our current reality and goals are aligned with our desired futureโšก๏ธ The goals being 3, 6 and 12 months. If you don't know what you want this future to look like. WOW๐Ÿ’ฅ

How exciting! It's time to get inquisitive.... think about the things that brought you joy as a child ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿฝ What activities did you loved doing or is there a skill or talent that you have been wanting to develop or nurture? ๐ŸŽจ ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿช‚๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿฝโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿคน๐Ÿผ๐Ÿฉฐ๐ŸŽบ๐ŸŽธ๐ŸŽณ๐Ÿšฒโœˆ๏ธโ›ต๏ธ Now is the time โฐ Once you can start to see what your future looks like, write it down, being as detailed as possible๐Ÿ“ โœ๏ธHow old you are? โœ๏ธWho are you surrounded by? โœ๏ธWhere are you living and what does it look like? โœ๏ธWhere does your income come from? โœ๏ธDo you travel? โœ๏ธWhat do you do for joy? Most importantly... How does this scenario make you feel? ๐Ÿฅฐ

Planning:


Once we have an idea of what it is we want, it's time to start planning and doing the work to achieve it๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ Goals provide short term motivation and long term vision ๐Ÿค“ This is when we start to break it down๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐ŸฝWhat changes can we make daily (big or small) that will move us towards goal ๐Ÿ We often think that the changes we make have to be big and drastic, but this is not the case at all ๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ It might mean allocating as little as 10 minutes into your day to do something that is in line with your goal. When constructing our goals there are some guidelines that should be followed:

๐ŸŽฏ Ink what you think: You need to write them down. This makes them clear and holds you accountable ๐ŸŽฏ Write the current date and the date you will achieve your goal by. Note: if you havenโ€™t achieved goal by disclosed date โ€“ donโ€™t give up! Often, we just need more time so extend this date and allow yourself some more time โฐ ๐ŸŽฏGoal should be difficult but realistic to achieve ๐ŸŽฏGoal should be SMARTER โ€“ Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time bound, Emotional and Reward (next post) ๐ŸŽฏState each goal in a positive statement as if you have already achieved the goal ๐ŸŽ‰ ๐ŸŽฏLink your goal to your why and the way you will feel๐Ÿฅฐ ๐ŸŽฏAsk for help or support with your coaches, teammates, family, friends etc if this is something you need๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐ŸŽฏRead them every day! You can have it written in a diary, on a white board, on your mirror, on your phone screen, set reminders on your phone. So many ways to constantly remind yourself๐Ÿค“ ๐ŸŽฏReview โ€“ update goals as required๐Ÿ“ ๐ŸŽฏGet grateful for your current situation and the opportunity you have to create positive change in your life๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Weโ€™ve broken it down

๐Ÿ“ Itโ€™s now time to take action ๐Ÿ’ฅ We are so ingrained in the quick fix. Get rich quick schemes. Lose 20kgs in 2 days. Unfortunately, none of these are sustainable able and itโ€™s the routine and consistency that gets us towards our goal. Now at the beginning you might be incredibly motivated (๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ) but motivation is a sometimes feeling and what measures will you have in place once that feeling subsides ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ’ฅHow will you hold yourself accountable?

๐Ÿ’ฅAre you self-motivated?

๐Ÿ’ฅDo you need to have someone check in with your progress?

๐Ÿ’ฅDo you need to set daily reminders?

๐Ÿ’ฅDo you need to tell someone?

๐Ÿ’ฅDo you need a coach or professional in the field for support? Itโ€™s also important to reassess and reflect๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿ’ซAm I on track? ๐Ÿ’ซIs this goal still something I want? ๐Ÿ’ซCan I push myself more? And understanding that challenges and hurdles will pop up. This quote sums it up: โ€œEverything that happens on the way is not in the wayโ€. Meaning itโ€™s all part of your journey and growth. Donโ€™t be disheartened if something does pop up. Review your goals and get focused. Itโ€™s actually in the challenge and persistence that growth happens ๐Ÿคฏ


โœจ When you look back in 6-12 months youโ€™ll see how far youโ€™ve come! โœจ


Rewarding:


What happens when we get rewarded for doing good things? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ We keep doing them! Who can remember the last time they rewarded themselves for achieving their goal?? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค” As we are goal seeking beings, we have already moved on to the next one without giving any acknowledgement or credit to ourselves for the one just achieved ๐Ÿ† By rewarding ourselves we build our goal muscle ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ and it becomes a lot easier to draw on achievement when thereโ€™s reward attached to it! Itโ€™s so much more memorable๐Ÿ’ญ And remember - if you havenโ€™t achieved your goal by a certain time frame, donโ€™t be disheartened, sometimes we just need to allow more time โฐ
