Going for goal
Itโs time to think about what you really want (what you really really want ๐ต ) for the remaining year ahead and coming up with some goals that are sustainable and long term ๐๐ผ
This can be applied in all aspects of your ๐ whether it be netball or life ๐คฉ If you're after a quick fix.... sorry ๐ ๐ผโโ๏ธHate to break it to you, but if really was that quick and easy we would be doing it right? ๐คทโโ๏ธ Unfortunately, it's the hard work, challenges and setbacks that separate those who succeed from those who don't๐ฑ๐ And for those that do persist, realise that the hard work and lessons is actually where the growth and magic happensโจโจโจ You learn more about yourself and smash through boundaries you thought you had๐ฅ Below we cover more details on Goal Setting and the various steps to setting yourself up for success:

Why:
Before I can even try to convince you to set goals ๐ฏ You probably are like me and need to understand the whyโ๏ธ๐คทโโ๏ธ If I don't see a point, there's a high chance it ain't getting done๐ ๐ผโโ๏ธ Did you know that we complete goals every. single. day - whether we realise it or not? ๐ง The fact that we can set our alarms โฐ shower, arrive at work on time (or near enough) OR get ready for netball training, put our shoes on, arrive in enough time ready to warm up, are all little micro goals ๐ Understanding that we have a choice with all the goals we have, means that we have some control about the direction we go ๐โช๏ธโคต๏ธ๐ Without this we lack purpose or, most commonly, just go with the flow and drift to wherever our circumstances conveniently take us ๐จ ๐๐๐ By having goals, we create a focus, so when we have a bunch of external stimulus and distractions thrown ๐คพ๐ฝโโ๏ธ๐๐คน๐ฝโโ๏ธ at us, we can revert back to our goals and ask ourselves this question:
Is this moving me closer or further from my goalsโโฌ ๏ธ or โก๏ธ ๐ค Dreaming:
What is it that you want? ๐คทโโ๏ธ We all have that invisible ceiling that we put on ourselves ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ What we believe we deserve or are capable of. I know you have one - I do too ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ
Imagine ๐ญ this was removed and could do or be anyone or anything you ever wanted๐ฑ๐ซ Think about where you would like to be in 5 years time.... Will it be completely different to what you are doing now? Are you currently implementing micro goals to get you there? ๐ Often when we are planning this far ahead, it all of a sudden gives us permission to be able to create a vision of anything we want ๐๐ผ This is because we are NOT basing the outcome on:
๐where we currently are
๐what we currently have
๐what we think we currently capable of
โจWith the ceiling lifted anything is possibleโจ
When we see this vision, we can then start to break it down so that our current reality and goals are aligned with our desired futureโก๏ธ The goals being 3, 6 and 12 months. If you don't know what you want this future to look like. WOW๐ฅ
How exciting! It's time to get inquisitive.... think about the things that brought you joy as a child ๐ถ๐ฝ What activities did you loved doing or is there a skill or talent that you have been wanting to develop or nurture? ๐จ ๐๐ช๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ๐คน๐ผ๐ฉฐ๐บ๐ธ๐ณ๐ฒโ๏ธโต๏ธ Now is the time โฐ Once you can start to see what your future looks like, write it down, being as detailed as possible๐ โ๏ธHow old you are? โ๏ธWho are you surrounded by? โ๏ธWhere are you living and what does it look like? โ๏ธWhere does your income come from? โ๏ธDo you travel? โ๏ธWhat do you do for joy? Most importantly... How does this scenario make you feel? ๐ฅฐ

Planning:
Once we have an idea of what it is we want, it's time to start planning and doing the work to achieve it๐ช๐ผ Goals provide short term motivation and long term vision ๐ค This is when we start to break it down๐๐ฝ๐๐ฝWhat changes can we make daily (big or small) that will move us towards goal ๐ We often think that the changes we make have to be big and drastic, but this is not the case at all ๐ ๐ผโโ๏ธ It might mean allocating as little as 10 minutes into your day to do something that is in line with your goal. When constructing our goals there are some guidelines that should be followed:
๐ฏ Ink what you think: You need to write them down. This makes them clear and holds you accountable ๐ฏ Write the current date and the date you will achieve your goal by. Note: if you havenโt achieved goal by disclosed date โ donโt give up! Often, we just need more time so extend this date and allow yourself some more time โฐ ๐ฏGoal should be difficult but realistic to achieve ๐ฏGoal should be SMARTER โ Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time bound, Emotional and Reward (next post) ๐ฏState each goal in a positive statement as if you have already achieved the goal ๐ ๐ฏLink your goal to your why and the way you will feel๐ฅฐ ๐ฏAsk for help or support with your coaches, teammates, family, friends etc if this is something you need๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ ๐ฏRead them every day! You can have it written in a diary, on a white board, on your mirror, on your phone screen, set reminders on your phone. So many ways to constantly remind yourself๐ค ๐ฏReview โ update goals as required๐ ๐ฏGet grateful for your current situation and the opportunity you have to create positive change in your life๐๐ป

Weโve broken it down
๐ Itโs now time to take action ๐ฅ We are so ingrained in the quick fix. Get rich quick schemes. Lose 20kgs in 2 days. Unfortunately, none of these are sustainable able and itโs the routine and consistency that gets us towards our goal. Now at the beginning you might be incredibly motivated (๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ) but motivation is a sometimes feeling and what measures will you have in place once that feeling subsides ๐คทโโ๏ธ ๐ฅHow will you hold yourself accountable?
๐ฅAre you self-motivated?
๐ฅDo you need to have someone check in with your progress?
๐ฅDo you need to set daily reminders?
๐ฅDo you need to tell someone?
๐ฅDo you need a coach or professional in the field for support? Itโs also important to reassess and reflect๐ค ๐ซAm I on track? ๐ซIs this goal still something I want? ๐ซCan I push myself more? And understanding that challenges and hurdles will pop up. This quote sums it up: โEverything that happens on the way is not in the wayโ. Meaning itโs all part of your journey and growth. Donโt be disheartened if something does pop up. Review your goals and get focused. Itโs actually in the challenge and persistence that growth happens ๐คฏ

Rewarding:
What happens when we get rewarded for doing good things? ๐คทโโ๏ธ We keep doing them! Who can remember the last time they rewarded themselves for achieving their goal?? ๐ค๐ค๐ค๐ค As we are goal seeking beings, we have already moved on to the next one without giving any acknowledgement or credit to ourselves for the one just achieved ๐ By rewarding ourselves we build our goal muscle ๐ช๐ผ and it becomes a lot easier to draw on achievement when thereโs reward attached to it! Itโs so much more memorable๐ญ And remember - if you havenโt achieved your goal by a certain time frame, donโt be disheartened, sometimes we just need to allow more time โฐ
